  • Description

Introducing the Opera Pump in our new House Check, a distinctive take on formal dressing. Hand-cut from a single pattern of Fox Flannel and finished with our signature flat bow, it brings the character of checked cloth to an elegant dress loafer. From black-tie evenings to wedding celebrations, this is a shoe for moments worth dressing for. Made in England, each pair combines Bowhill & Elliott craftsmanship with the cloth-making heritage of Fox Brothers & Co.

The cloth has been woven by Fox Brothers & Co, the renowned British manufacturer with 250 years of cloth-making heritage. A celebration of British craftsmanship, with comfort and character in every step. Finished with the Flex Leather Sole made especially for us, offering comfort, flexibility and durability.  Our Flex Leather Sole delivers comfort for daily wear, while its special tanning process using scotch guard, provides good weather resistance and year-round wearability.

Handmade in England since 1874, our Opera Pumps are manufactured using time honoured shoemaking practices such as clicking, turning and lasting all by hand.

The Opera Pump in our House Check crafted with Fox Brothers & Co Fox Flannel is an Made-to-Order style so please expect a 4 week lead time.

  • Size & fit

Crafted from the 6862 pattern, the Opera pump has a rounded toe-shape and made with a low cut vamp, ideal for those with a high in-step. When it comes to fit we would advise a firm fit, the quilt lining will give in the width and bed in with wear.

  • Delivery & returns

For in-stock styles, you can expect delivery within 1 week, with Made-to-Order embroidered styles subjected to an estimated 10/12 week lead time.

Due to the nature of the product, all socks are non-returnable.

Delivery charges will be applied at checkout, as they will vary depending on the destination of your order. All shipments to the UK, EU & USA will be sent including tax, duties and tariffs paid, so no nasty surprises when the item arrives. Rest of the world shipments will be sent excluding tax, duty and tariffs, with any additional costs being the receivers responsibility.

Please ensure to only try on a carpeted surface and not on hard or wooden floors.

Unfortunately we do not offer free returns. Bowhill & Elliott offer a 28 day return policy (except monogrammed, bespoke design or items that have been customised). All goods should be returned in box fresh condition with original packaging. Return shipping can be arranged, with the cost of returns deducted from your final refund.

We wanted to create something inherently Bowhill & Elliott. Not just for a season, but as a lasting part of our story.

A year in the making, our House Check is a new expression of Bowhill & Elliott, rooted in Norfolk and brought to life in collaboration with Fox Brothers & Co. Designed by Bowhill & Elliott alongside the Fox Brothers team and woven in Wellington, it brings together the landscape, colours and craftsmanship that make us who we are.

We looked to Norfolk’s countryside and coast, drawing on the familiar tones of the place we call home. A ground of truffle, camel and grey is crossed with mustard, a nod to Norfolk’s Colman’s Mustard, and the deep, inky blue of our signature branding. Together, these colours form a check that feels both distinctive and quietly familiar. Working with the team at Fox Brothers & Co was central to that ambition. Their 250 years of textile heritage brought invaluable knowledge to the collaboration, helping us translate our ideas into cloth. This was about more than choosing colours and a pattern. It was about working with people whose understanding of textiles could give our House Check the depth, balance and quality we had imagined.

Our House Check is not a limited edition. It is the beginning of an evolving collection, created to become a lasting and recognisable part of the Bowhill & Elliott story. Inspired by where we come from, and made to accompany us into what comes next.

About Bowhill & Elliott

Bowhill & Elliott are a small, family-owned business with a fascinating history in shoemaking and manufacturing, crafting the finest footwear for over 150 years.

Established in 1874 in Norwich, England, as a bespoke shoemaker, we evolved into a dedicated slipper manufacturer in the 1960s. Our historic home at 65 London Street, Norwich, England, remains the same address where Obadiah Bowhill first set foot over the threshold, all those years ago

From bespoke shoemakers to a global brand, Bowhill & Elliott has become synonymous with exceptional quality, worn by everyone from royalty to music icons.

Situated in the Norwich Lanes, our four-floor building embodies our heritage. We continue to ‘make out the back, sell out the front’ with retail space, our newly renovated slipper lounge, office space and two workshops at the heart of our operations. In our workshops, eight skilled shoemakers, meticulously craft each pair by hand, using the same time-honoured techniques passed down through generations. Every detail including intricate embroidery, is carefully executed by hand using traditional gold work techniques that combine wires and threads to create unparalleled depth and beauty.

The home of the house shoe, whether it’s our handmade velvet Albert dress slippers or hard-soled Grecian loafers, the craftsmanship in every pair is unmatched.
