Bespoke Embroidered Slippers
The ultimate experience with Bowhill & Elliott is to indulge in a pair of bespoke embroidered velvet slippers. Here we open up our workshop, allowing you full access to our range of uppers, linings and sole units, hand made to your specifications on a choice of two last shapes. Completely gender neutral with sizes ranging from 2UK - 14UK, the only challenge is deciding what to order first!
Once you have paired your colours and materials the real fun starts, which hand stitched gold work embroidery will you commission to take pride of place on this one off pair of albert slippers? Are you inspired by travel and culture, a keen hobbyist, a club member, aspiring sportsperson, games enthusiast, or honoured with a family crest? The options are endless, with both wire and threads in a multitude of colours to choose from, the decision can sometimes be overwhelming. That’s why we are on hand all the way through the process, to help guide and assist to bring your design to life. It is always favourable to upload an image for us to work with, then we can draw on our many years of experience to create a digital image with suggested embroidery instructions for you to approve before we start the manufacturing process.
Due to the personal nature of the design we can not accept returns on bespoke embroidered slippers, but if you are unsure of your size we can either book a fitting in-store, or arrange to have trial fittings posted for you to confirm the size in the comfort of your own home.
Named after Queen Victoria’s consort, Prince Albert (who famously commissioned them to wear inside their many royal residences), Albert slippers today are loved by men and women alike, with all our styles unisex and available to order on two different last shapes. For the most daring among you the option of customised slippers is a must have. Although not full bespoke slippers as we still use our existing last shapes, we give full licence to design your own customised slippers.
PLEASE NOTE: We will email you to further discuss your specifications on completion of the purchase. Any customised styles are not eligible for refund.

Bowhill & Elliott are a small, family-owned business with a fascinating history in shoemaking and manufacturing, crafting the finest footwear for over 150 years.
Established in 1874 in Norwich, England, as a bespoke shoemaker, we evolved into a dedicated slipper manufacturer in the 1960s. Our historic home at 65 London Street, Norwich, England, remains the same address where Obadiah Bowhill first set foot over the threshold, all those years ago
From bespoke shoemakers to a global brand, Bowhill & Elliott has become synonymous with exceptional quality, worn by everyone from royalty to music icons.
Situated in the Norwich Lanes, our four-floor building embodies our heritage. We continue to ‘make out the back, sell out the front’ with retail space, our newly renovated slipper lounge, office space and two workshops at the heart of our operations. In our workshops, eight skilled shoemakers, meticulously craft each pair by hand, using the same time-honoured techniques passed down through generations. Every detail including intricate embroidery, is carefully executed by hand using traditional gold work techniques that combine wires and threads to create unparalleled depth and beauty.
The home of the house shoe, whether it’s our handmade velvet Albert dress slippers or hard-soled Grecian loafers, the craftsmanship in every pair is unmatched.
