These wine velvet plain Albert Slippers are named after Queen Victoria’s consort Prince Albert, who famously commissioned them to wear inside their many royal residence.

Traditionally a house shoe, the style gained popularity in the mid 1800s and soon became fashionable to wear at parties or with evening attire, most notably with decadent smoking jackets.

On a practical level the Albert Slipper was and still is, the perfect choice when wanting to protect wooden floors and rugs in the home.

My wife purchased these slippers as a Christmas gift and I couldn’t wait to receive them. Initially, I mistakenly ordered the “round toe” P last. Normally I wear a US 10, so I ordered a UK 9 and it was too large on the P last (maybe a half to full size too big). After speaking with Marc at customer service and explaining that I wanted the narrower K last, he instructed me to order UK 9. I was hoping that I made the right choice, since it’s a hassle to keep sending packages back overseas from the US. I’m happy to say that Marc’s recommendation was spot on. Many thanks to Marc who was awesome in helping to expedite my order during the busiest time of the year. A word of caution though…if you have wide feet, understand that the narrow last definitely fits snug. At first, I planned to wear these as a house shoe, because I’ve never owned an actual pair of slippers. However, these slippers are just just begging to be used as a regular shoe…with light use of course. I plan to order more colors in the future as well, because these slippers are just beautifully made. I think the one change I’m going to make is to add some type of embroidery to the toe. I ordered the plain slipper, so I would have an easier time making potential exchanges, but I think a design would take these to the next level. I have to say that wearing these slippers just makes you feel really regal. I highly recommend purchasing from Bowhill and Elliott.
