Our Ethos
Manufacturing sits at the heart of Bowhill & Elliott, the place to go for luxury slippers, made in England. The ethos of Bowhill & Elliott revolves around craftsmanship, focused on quality and timeless collections. As the last remaining shoemaker in Norfolk, we are proud to keep the tradition of shoemaking alive, still using many of the same manufacturing techniques we have been using since 1874 when it was commonplace to ‘make out the back and sell out the front’. For us, it's a way of life and a responsibility to maintain this way of manufacturing. We see ourselves as custodians of Bowhill & Elliott, intending to honour and maintain the skill and craft that had such a great influence and presence in this area of Norfolk.
A slow-wear manufacturer, we aren’t looking to launch new products every few weeks, but rather produce collections that stand the test of time. Most of our styles are sold on a Made-to-Order basis, resulting in very little waste or excess stock, making only what is needed. We encourage the idea of a considered purchase, believing that anything from us should be seen as an investment, to be worn and enjoyed.
As one of the last remaining shoemakers in Norfolk, we take great pride in our local community. If you visit the shop we offer a local price on Bowhill & Elliott products. The local price is designed to attract people to Norwich and visit the city centre, encouraging extra spending in Norwich's independent shops and eateries, stimulating the local economy.
