Let’s Talk About Why We’re Not Conforming to Black Friday

Just like last year (and all the years previous), we will be stepping aside when it comes to Black Friday promotions, and instead reasserting our message that here at Bowhill & Elliott, we promise transparent pricing, which will stay consistent all year round.

In case you’ve managed to avoid the garish splash of ads online, or amplified commercial breaks, next week brings Black Friday to the retail world, a tradition we seem to have adopted over the last few years from a traditionally American event. What was once supposed to signal the first day of profit for US retailers, a day after Thanksgiving, has become a signal to shoppers that prices will be decimated, allowing them to pick up a bargain right before Christmas.

You could say, perhaps, that Black Friday is a rare event on an otherwise barren 2020 calendar – maybe we should welcome the distraction from what otherwise is, without doubt, a stream of unpleasant news. However, for the majority of retailers in this country and wider, there have been a string of very bleak Fridays this year with many struggling to keep their doors open at all. If we take a moment to look behind the tumbling prices and bright red sale stickers, we realise that ‘picking up a bargain’ may end up with us ultimately paying a very big price indeed. The brands you cherish may not be able to continue trading if we don’t support them today.

Just like last year (and all the years previous), we will be stepping aside when it comes to Black Friday promotions, and instead reasserting our message that here at Bowhill & Elliott, we promise transparent pricing, which will stay consistent all year round. Not only will we politely decline the opportunity of these flash sales, but we won’t be holding seasonal sales of our own brand either. You may still enjoy seasonal sales on the other brands we stock, like Crockett & Jones, Cheaney and more, in line with their own activity, but we want you – our valued customer – to know that you can buy Bowhill & Elliott branded products with confidence at any time of the year.

BLACK FRI-YAY

That’s not to say there aren’t treats to be enjoyed; we want to reward our faithful customers who have supported us at any time in the past by launching our first competition to win a pair of plain black albert slippers. To enter, you have to already own a pair of Bowhills (in any style) and be ready to send us a picture of how you wear them. If you’re on Instagram or Facebook, we would love you to first ‘Follow’ us (if you’re not already) and then upload the picture of you sporting your B&E faithfuls with the hashtag #imwearingbowhillandelliott – don’t rush to do it now; the competition will be open from Black Friday itself (Friday 27th) until December 3rd, when the UK will hopefully be enjoying its first day out of lockdown 2.0.
